Fátima is known as the place where the Virgin Mary allegedly appeared to three children in 1917. Ever since, Catholic pilgrims have travelled to Fátima to visit the shrine. You’ll see one of the major shrines of the Catholic faith, a complex that contains the tombs of two of the young shepherd children and the crown of the Virgin in the Chapel of the Apparitions.
Nazaré is a cute fishing port with stunning panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Nazaré is renowned for the massive waves that crash against its coast every winter. Sebastian Steudtner set a new record in 2022 when he surfed a wave measuring 86 feet in height (26.21 meters)! Maya Gabeira set the largest wave surfed – an unlimited (female) record on a wave of 73.5 feet in height (22.4 meters). Garrett McNamara caught a wave with a height of 78 feet / 23.77 meters, the world record until 2017.
Óbidos is a picturesque town where you can enjoy the medieval atmosphere. You’ll discover the old city walls, cobblestone streets, and colourful houses. Some tours will also stop in Batalha, which is famous for its beautiful Monastery. It’s now classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site and was built by King John I of Portugal.
